Update: July 99
I managed to lose my Diverlog card at Stoney in April. I'd put my card inside my undersuit pocket and somehow managed to lose it, probably when dekiting at the end of the day when I was pre-occupied with a major leak in my drysuit.

Good old Stoney. Called them up a few days before I visited again in July and a replacement card was waiting for me in the shop. No charge!

Diverlog is Stoney Coves new registration system. Diverlog was introduced in early 1999 at Stoney-Cove. The 'offical' blurb states:
" Introducing Diverlog!

Stoney Cove maintains an approved system of safety procedures. They are in place to help both our staff and our customers to enjoy Stoney Cove safely Diverlog forms pact of these procedures. It is a computer-controlled register containing details of people who dive or intend to dive at Stoney Cove. The biggest benefit of Diverlog is that it gives us the opportunity to hold any customer's medical information that could be vital in an emergency

Always remember to:
  • Bring your Diverlog card with you and have it available for our staff. On arrival at Stoney Cove, your card will be checked and you will be logged into the day's visitors record.
  • Carry your personal Diverlog card at al times while at Stoney Cove, even in the water, It could help save your life!

Contravention:

  • Any diver; or contractor who contravenes the Stoney Cove Regulations may have their Diverlog registration suspended or cancelled. "

What do you get?
  • Personal registration card
  • The divers guidebook to Stoney Cove
  • Discount vouchers from various diving related suppliers

How much does it cost ?
  • 15UK pounds for 2 years
  • 7.50UK poungs for 6 months *

*- extendable for another 18months for additional 7.50UKpounds

Is it worth it ?

There has been much debate in diving circles about this scheme. Comment has ranged from applauding Stoney for taking a proactive step towards diver safety; to the cynical who reckon its just a marketing and money-making scam!

Some facts:
  • Its backed by BSAC, PADI and HSE but its NOT a national scheme
  • It was to be mandatory so all divers at Stoney would be carrying a card: but Stoney U-turned on this after a poor initial reaction to this by the punters and now anyone can still turn up at Stoney and register for the day (for an additional 3UK pounds a day)

Having paid out the 15 quid, my thoughts:

  • I beleive in diver self-responsibility. Its not Stoney Coves fault if I get into an incident. But I doubt if Diverlog will make an additional safety improvement over the excellent facilities they have already.
  • Will they enforce the last statement above and suspend/withdraw someones Diverlog card for unsafe practice? Unforunately the idiots aren't usually the ones who get 'caught'
  • However, if Diverlog assists in just one incident, I'll be glad my 15 quid went someway to helping the individual - it could always be me!
